Deloitte is introducing a voluntary redundancy programme within its UK Audit & Assurance practice that could affect up to 175 employees. The move follows an extended period of unusually low staff turnover in parts of the business, prompting the firm to adjust staffing levels.
Low Staff Turnover Drives Workforce Adjustment
According to Deloitte, lower-than-normal employee attrition in certain audit teams has reduced the number of positions becoming available through natural departures. As a result, the firm has decided to offer enhanced voluntary redundancy terms to selected employees in the affected areas.
A Deloitte spokesperson said the firm has experienced lower-than-usual employee turnover in parts of its UK Audit & Assurance business. The spokesperson added that the decision was made after careful consideration and that Deloitte will provide support to employees who choose to participate in the voluntary redundancy programme.
Up to 175 Audit Professionals Could Be Affected
Media reports indicate that up to 175 auditors, including managers and assistant managers, may be eligible for the voluntary redundancy programme.
The proposed reduction represents less than 3% of Deloitte’s UK Audit & Assurance workforce and fewer than 1% of the firm’s total UK workforce.
The firm has confirmed that the programme is voluntary and has not announced any compulsory redundancies.
Latest Workforce Adjustment Among Major Accounting Firms
The announcement marks the latest workforce adjustment within the UK’s professional services sector as firms continue to align staffing levels with changing business conditions and long-term workforce planning.
Unlike restructuring programmes linked to weaker market demand, Deloitte has attributed the latest initiative to sustained low employee turnover within parts of its audit practice, which has limited opportunities for natural workforce changes.
