Deloitte and Cedra Draw a New Line in the Audit and Tax Market

Deloitte Denmark’s decision to sell part of its Audit & Assurance business and selected Tax & Legal activities to Cedra Denmark is more than a corporate restructuring. It reflects a broader shift underway across the audit and tax advisory profession.

Increasingly, firms are choosing between two distinct markets. On one side are large multinational groups and regulated businesses facing growing complexity in tax, reporting, governance, technology, and compliance. On the other are SMEs and mid-market companies seeking local expertise, partner access, and practical advisory support.

The Deloitte-Cedra transaction is one of the clearest examples yet of a major firm deliberately repositioning itself around that divide.

Deloitte Doubles Down on Large and Complex Tax Clients

Following completion of the transaction, Deloitte will sharpen its focus on larger organizations with increasingly sophisticated requirements across audit, tax, legal, technology, risk, and transformation.

For tax teams, the move reflects a market where demand continues to grow for specialist expertise in areas such as international tax, transfer pricing, tax technology, global compliance, tax governance, ESG reporting, and cross-border transactions.

Deloitte stated that it will continue serving clients through its global network while increasing its focus on large corporates, regulated industries, and privately owned businesses with complex operational structures.

The firm will also maintain its public-sector audit and advisory practice, particularly where specialist expertise and technology-enabled solutions are required.

Cedra Builds a Stronger Tax and Advisory Platform

For Cedra Denmark, the acquisition provides immediate scale and significantly expands its audit, tax, legal, and advisory capabilities.

The transaction supports Cedra’s ambition to become a leading Nordic firm focused on SMEs and the mid-market segment, where businesses often require integrated audit, tax, accounting, legal, and business advisory services delivered through local relationships.

The acquisition follows Cedra’s expansion across Scandinavia, including similar transactions involving Deloitte’s businesses in Norway and Sweden.

Backed by Adelis Equity Partners, Cedra has been building a regional platform capable of competing with larger international networks while maintaining a local-market focus.

Tax & Legal Is Part of the Story

While much of the attention will focus on the audit business, the transaction also includes selected activities from Deloitte’s Tax & Legal practice.

The deal highlights how tax advisory businesses are increasingly being reshaped alongside audit practices as firms refine their target client segments.

Following completion, Deloitte’s remaining Tax & Legal practice is expected to employ approximately 326 professionals and generate around DKK 700 million in annual revenue.

At the same time, Cedra will gain additional tax capabilities that complement its growing advisory platform for owner-managed businesses and mid-sized enterprises.

460 Professionals Transfer to Cedra

Under the agreement, Cedra Denmark will acquire:

  • Approximately 460 employees
  • Around DKK 565 million in annual revenue
  • Deloitte offices in Aalborg, Odense, Silkeborg and Kolding
  • Selected employees and client portfolios from Copenhagen and Aarhus

Following the acquisition, Cedra Denmark is expected to employ approximately 730 people.

What This Means for the Profession

The transaction reflects a broader trend emerging across Europe’s professional services market.

Large firms are increasingly investing in technology, international capabilities, sector specialization, and multidisciplinary advisory services for complex organizations. At the same time, regional and mid-market firms are consolidating to build scale while preserving local client relationships.

For tax professionals, the deal illustrates how firms are adapting to changing client expectations and how the market for tax advisory services is becoming increasingly segmented.

Rather than competing for the same clients, Deloitte and Cedra are effectively choosing different parts of the market — and betting that greater focus will create stronger businesses on both sides.
